ABOUT THE IGUAZU FALLS, SITE OF CININTEL 2001

Foz do Iguaçu, a tourist and commercial center in the State of Paraná, in the Southern Region of Brazil, is located by the banks of the magnificent Iguazu Falls. The place has turned into an attractive international tourist center and shelters a famous national park bordering Argentina. With a highly efficient hotel network and its airport of international standard, Fóz do Iguaçú is a busy shopping center with road access to the equally famous Ciudad del Este, the most important commercial city of another neighbor country, Paraguay. This is what attracts thousands of shoppers from all over Brazil who cross the international border line carrying their huge shopping bags to load them with products from all parts of the world. During some periods of the year and due to the intense shopping activities near the Friendship Bridge, the place sometimes resembles the large cosmopolitan centers of the world. Finally, the last peculiar feature of Foz do Iguaçú is related to the Itaipú hydroelectric power plant, a binational development between Brazil and Paraguay that strongly contributed to change the scenery and the productive structure of the region through the flooding of large areas to form the monumental dam and enabling the settlement of thousands of workers from both countries in the area. Such features turn Foz do Iguaçú into an urban center with some 200,000 inhabitants.

The interesting aspect is that activity is so intense that they operate in four different currencies: Real, Dollar, Peso and Guarani. In general, there are not restrictions of tourists entering Paraguay. Our recommendation for safe shopping is to use the services of your own travel agency or hotel.
